Overview

Pinnacle Excellence Program Overview

The initial four-day workshop begins with a proprietary 360° feedback report and the results of diagnostic testing.  Key practices and models are discussed and practiced in various individual and team activities. A case study provides real-life-like application of key course concepts throughout the program. You leave the workshop with a personal action plan to achieve business and career objectives and a toolkit of templates and models to help you use what you learned. 

Self Awareness and Discovery

The first step in becoming a better leader is to clearly see your strengths and challenges as others see them. You can then determine how to address what is negatively impacting your results and goals today and what is holding you back from achieving your career goals. This information becomes the foundation for the personal action plan you will develop throughout the rest of the initial workshop. In this module, you will:

  • Describe your key leadership challenges
  • Receive 360° feedback specifically tailored to the skillsets addressed in Pinnacle
  • Review the results of a diagnostic test that explains your works style and key drivers
  • Review your highest and lowest effectiveness scores, a summary of your strengths and challenges, recommended personal development goals and additional written comments

Career Goal Setting

Excellent leaders are often described as highly motivated to achieve results, organizationally and personally. They have a clear view of where they are headed and what results and competencies will be expected from them along the way. This module focuses on creating an action plan to achieve excellence in your current role as well as prepare for your next role. In this module, you will:

  • Define your five-year personal career goals, including compensation, responsibility and critical quality of life factors
  • Identify how your current organizational role contributes to your near-term personal goals
  • Define excellence in your current role in terms of your behaviors and results
  • Define the executive competencies and business results expected in the next position you want to attain
  • Develop an action plan for achieving business results as well as a personal development plan

Communication

Building support and collaborating with others are essential to achieving the desired business results. Excellent leaders effectively listen and gather feedback about how they and their team are doing. They build trust as they truthfully share their organization’s strengths and weaknesses and their plans to address these. In this module, you will communicate to build support and collaboration and:

  • Effectively listen and gather feedback about how they and their team are doing
  • Truthfully communicate the strengths and weaknesses of the function/unit

Strategic Planning and Alignment

One of the most difficult leadership challenges is making sure that one’s business objectives support the overall organizational strategy. This requires an overall understanding of sound strategic planning as well as alignment of functional objectives with shareholder expectations, customer expectations and long-term business goals. In this module, you will:

  • Describe a typical strategic planning process
  • Use a SWOT analysis
  • Link functional objectives and shareholder expectations
  • Align functional strategies/activities with customer expectations
  • Balance short & long term objectives
  • Create a qualitative vision of business excellence

Execution

Leaders are expected to get the right things done well in the shortest time possible with the least amount of resources. The excellent leader builds a strategic plan and then uses metrics, progress reviews, and a customer feedback loop to ensure they achieve the desired outcome. They effectively communicate change in their organization and develop the needed execution drive and skills in others. In this module, you will:

  • Identify and implement adjustments needed to reach goals
  • Use progress updates with customers to build credibility for your organization
  • Apply proven change communication approaches by
  • Sharing the vision and priorities of their function/unit and link those to the company’s strategies
  • Introducing and communicating substantial change to an organization
  • Energizing /building commitment the organization by explaining the whys and the urgent need

Delegation 

Delegating effectively means assigning major pieces of work in a way that maximizes results and develops others’ leadership and execution skills. In this module, you will:

  • Balance criticality of results, individual development and probability of success to select the best person to take on the task
  • Identify and manage skill gaps in the chosen person
  • Avoid common mistakes when delegating
  • Challenge yourself and your leadership team to delegate more

Talent Management and Coaching

The sign of a true leader is how they develop the talents of those around them.

In this module, you will apply various talent management and coaching tools. You will:

  • Use a Nine-Box Tool to assess the talent in an organization
  • Lead a Talent Review Meeting to gather 360 input and identify key talent to develop as part of succession planning
  • Prepare an Individual Development Plan

The Pinnacle™ Excellence Program Workshop is a full 4-day workshop (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) that begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday and concludes at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. It is held at the Newport Beach Marriott Bayview in Newport Beach, CA or The Mansion on Peachtree in Atlanta, GA. -- hotel stay is required during the workshop and all meals are working group meals.

4-Day Workshop FAQ's

In 360-degree feedback, what is meant by numerical and written comments?

The 360-degree feedback report is compiled through the use of a survey which asks for numerical ratings (1-5) as well as written comments in key management skill areas: communicating, planning, coaching, reviewing, and leading.

What makes this a 12-month program?

 

We begin both of our Performex Excellence ProgramsTM with 360-degree feedback and a self-administered diagnostic instrument. This data and feedback allows Performex to tailor the three-day Summit and four-day Pinnacle initial workshops to meet individual needs of your participating employees. Our ongoing follow-up after the workshop is extensive. It begins with a summary report meeting between the participant, his or her team leader, and the assigned PerformexTM coach. During this meeting, typically held 4 – 7 weeks after the workshop, there is a review of the participant’s takeaways from the workshop, trends in the feedback data, and the 2 personal developmental plans that are created in the initial workshop. The outputs of this meeting include refined and agreed upon personal developmental plans which will be implemented during the next 11 months. During the implementation period there are 4 coaching sessions, a second workshop, and topic specific webinars. These components of the program offer ongoing support from our expert coaches and ensure maximum management effectiveness back on the job. The program concludes with an annual 360 resurvey and the accompanying final debriefing consultation to track success and compare results for further development.

How much of what I say gets back to my company?

Only the participant and the Performex™ Certified Coach sees the feedback report. What is discussed in the workshop is held in rigorous confidence. We create a safe environment where you can maximize your strengths and find solutions to your challenge areas. You and your Performex™ Certified Coach will then discuss the insights you gained and the goals you set for yourself during the workshop with your supervising manager to encourage coaching throughout the program.

How long does the survey take to complete?

Most respondents report that time spent answering the survey questions is 20-40 minutes, depending upon the length of written comments.

Can I pick out which workshop date I want?

Yes, of course. The 3-day workshops are held with a maximum of 12 participants from different companies and are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

What if my plane leaves at 4:00 on Friday? Can I leave early?

The final 2-3 hours are very important to everyone at the workshop. We ask that you make flight arrangements after 5:00 p.m. We do promise to wrap up at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

I live in the area, can’t I just drive in each day?

The workshop is designed to keep you fully focused. It is an intense 3 days with significant group interaction with other attendees. All meals are taken together as a group. Staying at the hotel is an integral part of the program and is highly recommended. Exceptions should be discussed with Performex™ contact.

2nd Workshop FAQ's

Is it the same group from the original workshop?

Yes and more. The 2nd Workshop is comprised of participants from 2-3 workshops and others who are attending as a make-up session. You will see most of the participants from your 3-day workshop and gain new insights from those others who have attended other sessions.

How much of what I say gets back to my company?

The 2nd Workshop is a group interactive experience and does not include any reporting back to your supervising manager or company. This is left up to you.

Are 2nd Workshop hotel and meal fees included in the registration fee?

Your hotel charges for this one-day workshop are payable directly to the hotel upon check-out. All meals during your stay will be charged to your room account. Breakfast and Lunch during the workshop is included and consider a working meal.

If I am unable to attend my scheduled 2nd Workshop, can I make up the session at a later date?

Yes. Contact your Performex™ Certified Coach to reschedule.

Do I have to attend each step in the program in sequence?

The program is designed for maximum efficiency. However, the order in which you participate in follow-up components is flexible.

Can I pick out which workshop date I want?

You will be scheduled for a one-day Workshop, also known as the 2nd Workshop when you begin the program. However, if you are unable to attend your scheduled 2nd Workshop you may attend the next one as a make-up session.

I live in the area, can I drive in for the 2nd day workshop?

Yes. The one-day Workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. If you live locally you may wish to drive in for the day. Breakfast and lunch during the workshop are served and is consider a working meal. We also have reserved a small block of rooms for those who choose to come in the night before.
